The HelSEV statutes establish ethical standards for its members, define their rights, and specify the disciplinary measures applicable in case(s) of non-compliance (primarily Articles 6 and &). In particular:
Principles of Ethics
1. Commitment to the Society’s mission
Members must act according to the mission and objectives of the Society rather than personal interests. They shall conduct their scientific and professional activities with integrity, independence, and respect for human dignity.
2. Integrity and honesty
Any form of data fabrication, plagiarism, or manipulation of scientific data is prohibited.
3. Professional conduct
a. Defaming fellow scientists or unfairly exploiting their work is not allowed.
b. The public positions of the members must be based on scientifically documented data.
c. Members must demonstrate collegiality, respect, and professional propriety and refrain from any misleading or deceptive actions.
4. Transparency
Specifically, with respect to financial matters: transparency shall be ensured through responsible resource management, clear reporting, and accountability.
5. Avoidance of conflicts of interest
Members must declare any personal or professional interests that could influence their decisions.
6. Respect and equal treatment
Respect for all members, collaborators, and beneficiaries, without discrimination.
7. Confidentiality and data protection
Protecting confidential information and personal data.
8. Collectivity and cooperation
9. Members shall promote active participation, respect for collective decisions, and cooperation, while avoiding any actions that may hinder or undermine the HelSEV work.
10. Accountability
All members, especially those in positions of responsibility or administration, shall be accountable for their actions and decisions.
11. Compliance with Laws and the Statutes
Adherence to legislation and the Society’s regulations is mandatory.
12. Responsible use of resources
Financial, material, and human resources must be used exclusively for the Society’s purposes.
Bioethics and research
1. The research conducted by HelSEV members must comply with the principles of bioethics and applicable national and international regulations.
2. Special care shall be taken for:

- the protection of personal data,
- the obtaining of the informed consent of the participants,
- the welfare of laboratory animals (where applicable) and
- participation in research that violates fundamental human rights, which is strictly prohibited.
Ethics and Bioethics committee
1. An Ethics and Bioethics Committee is established.
2. The Committee:

- processes new developments and proposes amendments to the principles of ethics and bioethics to the General Assembly
- examines complaints,
- issues opinions on ethical matters,
- recommends sanctions to the Board of Directors.
Sanctions
1. Violation of the ethics principles involves disciplinary sanctions.
2. Disciplinary sanctions may include:

- a warning,
- temporary suspension of membership, or
- expulsion from the Society.
Member education on Ethics and Bioethics.
The HelSEV shall promote education in ethics and bioethics by organizing seminars, workshops, and educational activities.
